Dreams - The Mirrors of Your Soul

Dream interpretation has for many years, fascinated me; and as with any subject that fascinates me, I delved into it deeply. I soon came to realize I didn't really enjoy making windows into men's souls. It's akin to being too nosy- when a person is too nosy sometimes they discover things they wish they didn't know. Let the dreamer beware to whom he relates his dreams, unless he doesn't mind that person knowing his innermost thoughts and feelings. Although he or she will usually leave some parts of the dream out of the telling- similar to leaving the secret ingredient out of a recipe. The dreamer understands this secret, but instinctively keeps it from the listener.

We ourselves are the best interpreters of our own dreams; it's not possible for another person to fully interpret them. The best the interpreter can do is touch on all the universal symbols used in the dream. We all use these symbols in our dream state, the same way we use popular slang in our everyday language. These words, phrases and symbols are inculcated into the society in which we live, and therefore recognized and understood by everyone in the society.

Some universal symbols are ancient, and have been handed down from one generation to the next for thousands of years, e.g. The symbol of the cross- something to do with the area of religion- or feelings of persecution. The snake- having to do with sex- Water representing life itself. Dark, cloudy skies and storms representing problems and troubles approaching. Losing our teeth- fear of growing old etc. etc.

We also have our own personal symbols- these symbols are peculiar to ourselves and our own lives; we alone know what they mean to us. Whatever our dreams are, basically we always dream our fears and desires- one or the other, and sometimes both. Dreaming, we look into a mirror and see ourselves- that part of ourselves we don't admit into our conscious waking mind.

This is a fascinating subject. Maybe we don't delve too deep into the dreams because we are afraid of what is being revealed. I've had the "losing teeth" forever - my dentist had a simple answer - I grind my teeth!:) Who know? Maybe it really is that simple sometimes but not always.

You ARE dreaming one of your fears- because you know you're grinding your teeth, you fear you'll grind them right out of your mouth!

When we've been thinking or worrying about getting older, we will incorporate, into our dreams, all the signs we think demonstrate this process. As there are many things we lose as we get older, we will usually dream about losing whatever is the most important losses to us personally. That's what I meant about our own personal symbols.

In translating your own dreams- start basically with the fact that you are dreaming your fears and/or your desires. Then proceed to interpret the symbols we all use in our dream-state. We draw ourselves a picture of whatever is on our mind. Understand what those pictures mean to you. With a little practice, you'll be interpreting your own dreams 'til the cows come home! Have fun- Ella
