The Golden Years of Life- Saving up for our individual Grand Finale- Metaphors of Life and Aging

Don't go! We cry out to our youth, in anxious fright; and in the wake of its retreating shadow, grasp at remnants which have fallen away, in its mad rush to escape.

As we cling to the fondly remembered gems, glittering in the bed of our dimly lit past; we lay up treasures within the chest of our golden years- a time, which although physically dreaded, is the ultimate pinnacle of the realization of life's struggle.

We memorialize the jewels of specific value, for later summons to useful purpose. In the two-sided coin of life- everything has a price- for every gain- there is a loss to pay.

In this wicked game we choose to play; it is a yearly automatic deduction- a deduction from the account, if you will, of our youthful vitality, physical beauty, and zest for life. And yet, with each withdrawal from this physical account; there exists the potential for replenishing deposit in the mental account of our memory bank- our life savings- as it were- of accumulated knowledge, wisdom and experience.

The excess of this ever-filling receptacle- may graciously spill into the supplicating hands of our undernourished spirit. In the abundant banquet of spiritual life; we need let balance and reason guide our decisions- and manage our investments wisely; not as others, who would try to buy what can be had for free.

Keeping it simple, not worrying about what other people do; is the way we do it our own way- the only way that will satisfy our souls.

In the push and pull- yin and yang of life; as we push our mind and spirit upward in search of whence it came- the earth does pull our physical bodies downward- reclaiming its bodily gift of life. We may witness this process in reality- when, as we say- everything in the body starts "going South."

We virtually observe the almost imperceptible separation of the body and soul; as the latter strives in ever increased yearning, toward the celestial heights of its origins. In doing it our way, we choose our own individual path to this summit.

The hegemony of our youth must needs be supplemented by life's unfolding deposits, so to speak. And in the grand finale of our golden years- we plant the flag of our holy trinity; body, mind and spirit, atop this mountainous peak of accomplishment, and drink deep from the cup of victory- the age-laid wine of life.

Ella what a tribute to life and the beauty and value of every part of it. You take the panic away for me and remind me of how much is gained as we get older. I don't know quite why I want to use this word, but I do - courageous. I think your article is courageous.

Love your way with words - like my dad said as he was in his late 70s (and still digging foundations for the home we were building him and planting trees - big ones - then a couple years farther... he had Parkinson's with all the symptoms - "those who are talking fondly about the golden years haven't lived them yet...."

The so called "golden years" are no different than the other stages of life, in that we never know what will be down that road until we walk down it- the main difference is that we're sure of the destination this time..just not what we'll run into before we get there- have to be ready for anything- which is what life has pretty much taught us by then... I'm honored by your comment- thank you-

And what a good cup of wine it is Ella. - Keeping it simple, not worrying about what other people do; is the way we do it our own way- the only way that will satisfy our souls.- I really like hearing those words and the older I get the easier it is to do. This is definitely a favourite for me of your articles, such a great message to which many will relate. Thanks!

What a wonderful comment- it fills my soul with needed warmth.

The perception of time's brevity- does quicken our steps toward the horizon of our goals. Tarry not; for the hour draws near............I offer you my gratitude, for your time and thoughts.- As Always- Ella

I'm afraid everything does go South for the winter- what we may call the winter season of our life. I apologize for my laggardness in responding, but I can't run as fast as I used to you know :-) Although I can run faster than some people my age..LOL That you would give up even one wink of your, I'm sure, much needed sleep, to read my article, is such a kind and generous gift- one for which I gratefully thank you- you are such a good man- and I know a good man when I see one......Nite Nite Dave- sleep the sleep of the righteous- as you deserve- Always- Ella

You are a very wise woman, and beautiful as well.
